Day 8 Rarotonga

Today started like any other day but deep down I knew thought something was happening today but as usual I couldn’t recall what it was, while I was trying to remember Nate came in and causally said “You better get a move on because we are doing a practice walk to Avarua for the Camino” ( the one Camino trail were doing is a pilgrimage trail that for us starts in Le Puy, France and ends in Santiago, Spain).

As I started to get ready I wondered at what point in the journey I would regret going. Mum and mark decided we would work the inland road because they thought there would be more shade and less cars (Ara Metua the road we went on is the oldest road in Polynesia which I thought was pretty cool) but we weren’t able to locate where we were because we didn’t no how to decipher our locations based on our surroundings. After a while I decided to walk at the front with Nate but after chatting to myself and being given the silent treatment I decided to walk at the back but after a while it seemed that the dogs only come out to bark at me so I quickened my pace to stay with the rest of the group. After about two hours of walking we finally reached the fringes of Avarua where we started making our way to the Punanga Nui markets which start at 7:30 on a Saturday and start backing up around 12:00. Once we make it to the markets we split into two groups with Mark and Tom going to the playground and Mum, Nate and I going to look for some drinks. After we had loaded our selves with two coconuts for mark and mum, a tropical smoothie for Nate and a good old lime thick shake for me. After we got back and Mum was talking to Mark about something like trying to widen my taste we decided to try and find some thing to eat but since we had arrived a bit late some of the stalls were running low on food so in the end I grabbed some chicken and chips while Nate ordered a hotdog ( Crazy kid has an addiction to hotdogs) and Tom settled for a passion fruit shaved ice thing. After our we had feasted on our food we started walking back on the beach road this time but before we got far Nate wasn’t co-operating so mum and Nate stayed for a bit longer while me and Mark with Tom on his back started the long journey home. At about halfway I peeled ahead in a dream world of my own which made the trip that more bearable. After we got home I crashed onto the couch refusing to do anything but read.
